Sectionals Top the List at Furniture Markets

As a retailer for the past 20 plus years I have seen many trends come and go. During the 70s and 80s the large pit type sectional was a very popular for living rooms as well as game rooms. This was a sectional usually comprised of many pieces with a multitude of pillows almost always ending up in a messy pile. Often recliners and other gimmicks were added in an attempt to make this behemoth more attractive to potential consumers. Well I am pleased to say that sectionals are on the rise and they have gone through a serious face lift to become a welcome addition to most interiors. According to Furniture Today the rise in sales is due to the growing popularity in the great room and media rooms many home are being designed with these days.

The main thing many consumers are looking for is a great look, proper scale, and comfort. For the manufacturer, following the needs of consumers has been the key to the
resurgence in this part of the seating market. Most of our top selling sectionals are an L shape with a chaise for a simple two piece combination. The scale of the reduced size items make it perfect for the average size environment. Often a sleeper is available to give an additional bed which is often necessary for smaller homes and condominiums. Even the connectors that keep the individual sections together have been improved for an improved look as well as a stable construction. One of our most versatile sectionals by Ekornes is perfect for media room seating and offers high and low back recliners as well as two corner options to fit any room or seating need.

In addition many companies are making ottomans and armless chairs which can be incorporated into the mix to maximize options. Another manufacturer, Kuka has some really great values as well as attractive styles. Their concepts are absolutely beautiful and the leather is very usable in a family room or game room situation. The High Point market this year was proof that the focus is back to curvaceous less lumbering models. The Gen Xers and baby boomers according to Furniture Today are willing to spend more for the right home furnishings, but won't have to with models starting at $850. Some other really great styles from W. Schillage, and Lazar are available with a great selection of leathers and fabrics. as well as innovative features.

Bandai’s Digital Living Gallery – A Digital Photo Frame With An Artistic Twist:-

http://www.ohgizmo.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/01/digital_living_gallery.jpg

By Andrew Liszewski

So you got one of those useless fancy digital photo frames for Christmas, but do you really want to spend your day looking at photos of your family? Of course not! Thankfully Bandai is the first company to come to that realization, and their new Digital Living Gallery line of digital photo frames reflects that. Instead of a cheesy plastic frame, the LCD is surrounded by a traditional, and tasteful, wooden frame like you’d find on a painting. And since that would probably seem out of place while the frame was cycling through photos of your trip to Carlsbad Caverns, Bandai will be pre-loading the frames with highbrow content.

At launch, the Digital Living Gallery will be available in a Pierre-Auguste Renoir or a Vincent van Gogh version that each come with 30 high-quality digital versions of classical works from each artist. And Bandai will be selling SD cards with works from other artists as well, so you can continually expand your frame’s collection. While you’re not going to fool anyone into thinking that’s a real van Gogh you’ve got propped up on your desk, something like this would go a long way to classing-up your cubicle, once you get rid of all those Halo figures.

What would the perfect digital living room look like?

http://www.blogcdn.com/www.pvrwire.com/media/2006/12/digital-living-room.jpg

So I was reading this article about how AMD has shifted its thinking about the digital living room, and it got me wondering what the perfect digital living room would look like?
For AMD, the focus is shifting from trying to get consumers to put a computer into their living room to figuring out how to get chips into the living room. Because it turns out you don't need a PC, per se, to have a digital living room. You could have an internet-connected PC in another room downloading and streaming video from the internet, and that PC can stream video wirelessly to your living room. Or you can have a TV with a hard drive and an internet connection, and you wouldn't need a PC at all.

In truth, there probably won't be a single model for the digital living room. With Apple set to push the iTV, TiVo connecting you to the internet, and Microsoft working the multimedia PC possibilities, there are a number of companies vying for a position in front of your couch.

What does your living room look like these days? Do you have a TV , DVD player, video game console, Slingbox, and stereo? Are you waiting for all of these things to be combined in one package to take up as little space as possible? Or are you stringing wires throughout the house to connect as many devices as possible and patting yourself on the back for having a home that represents your true inner nerd?

Singapore has one of the highest living standards in the world. Fortune Magazine has rated it as the second best city in the world in terms of quality living. Its favorable location in Southeast Asia makes it a major crossover point between the eastern and western hemispheres. Singapore is also home to half a million foreigners, mostly professionals and their families, comprising a large international community that gives the city-state a distinct cosmopolitan character.

World-class goods, services, and luxuries are readily available in Singapore. It also offers state-of-the art facilities for education, shopping, sports, and recreation. Singapore’s public transport system, famous for its high level of efficiency, comfort, and safety, is comparable to the best in the world. Its buses and Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) access the entire country. Other indicators of a high standard of living are first-class medical services, top-of-the-line educational facilities, wide choice of excellent housing, and a global connectedness through its high tech telecommunications network. Every single global banking institution has a Singaporean branch.

The Political and Economic Risk Consultancy (PERC) has rated Singapore as having the best quality of life for expatriates. This is an organization that conducts frequent surveys and analyzes expatriate life in Asia. The world-renowned group stated that safety, cleanliness, and efficiency are Singapore’s most attractive features. A low crime rate makes Singapore a safe environment, for both foreigners and locals. Singapore leads ahead of every country, except Japan, in terms of international perception of high level of personal security.
